Saint Gaudens Gold Coins - What Are They?
Have you ever given a second thought to possibly being a coin collector? I know I have at one point. Some people collect coins as a hobby, and others turn it into a huge deal, more like passion. I have put some research into it and have found that some of the coolest are Saint Gaudens Gold Coins.
I think that the Saint Gaudens Gold Coins are really awesome. They don't look like any of the other coins that you can find for sale or trade. Prices are really competitive too! They are so patriotic in my opinion. I don't know there is something about the American eagle that totally gets me in the patriotic spirit!
The Saint Gaudens Gold Coins were named after a renowned sculptor August St. Gaudens. Way back in the day president Teddy Roosevelt had hired August to re-do the nations coins. The $20 gold coin was and is thought my many to be one of the most beautiful designs to every be used on a coin. When the Saint Gaudens Gold Coins first came out there were less then 13,000 minted. If you can get your hands on one of those now days, well lets just say you could be sitting on a $10,000 gold coin. Let say you have one that is nearly mint condition, well think closer to a half million dollar coin! In 1933, when president Franklin S Roosevelt made it illegal to have gold coins most of the coins in circulation were collected and then melted. A vast majority of the 1933 coins were destroyed, maybe a handful were not. We do know of one that ended up in the coin collection of King Farouk of Egypt. This collection was eventually auctioned off and that one coin disappeared, or at least that's what it seemed, at the time it was illegal to own the gold coin. What you probably don't know is that the coin resurfaced, and was sold at the Sotheby's Auctions in 2002 for more than $7.5 million dollars! Making that particular Saint Gaudens Gold Coins the most valuable in the word. I wouldn't mind having that coin! Whether you are a serious about coin investing or just enjoy having them for fun, buying coins can definately be a rewarding expierience. You may want to get a couple Saint Gaudens Gold Coins just because they look beautiful, or you can try your luck at hunting down some of them rare gems from the early 20th century. Anyway you do it, its totally worth it!
